Our recent trip to Mackinac Island was a memorable adventure, and our stay at Tiki RV Park in St. Ignace, MI, made it even better. This charming campground, just a couple of miles from the ferry to the island, provided the perfect base for our explorations. We parked our 21.5-foot Palomino RL-186 travel trailer, pulled by our trusty 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz, at Site 16. In this article, I’ll share our Tiki RV Park St. Ignace Site 16 camping experience, highlighting the pros and cons of our stay.
Campground Overview
Tiki RV Park in St. Ignace offered a comfortable and convenient base for our island explorations. We were there from June 30th to July 5th, and here’s what stood out:
- Facilities and Amenities: No camp store here, but they’ve got vending machines, firewood, and ice. Plus, there are plenty of stores nearby if you need anything. The laundry facilities were handy, and the restrooms were clean. We didn’t use the showers, but they’re available.
- Campground Layout: The park is moderately wooded, with a mix of large RVs, charming tent sites, and even some cozy yurts. There were some noises due to workers on tractors, but it wasn’t a big deal and might have just been our timing.
- Connectivity: Wifi is available only around the office, and cell service on Visible (Verizon network) was spotty, with 1 to 2 bars. It worked for most tasks, but slow speeds made video calls a bit tricky.
- Overall Vibe: Despite a few minor hiccups, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back.
Site 16: The Good, The Bad, and The Unique
Now, let’s talk about Site 16, where we set up our trailer.
- Location: Site 16 is right next to the maintenance bank, which means some worker traffic. It wasn’t a huge issue, but something to keep in mind if you like a quieter spot.
- Size and Layout: The site is pretty narrow and gets full sun in the afternoon, so be ready for some heat. It’s also not level – we had to raise the driver side about 2 inches to get things balanced.
- Utilities: Water pressure was excellent, and the faucet didn’t leak. The electrical box was well-positioned and worked perfectly. The sewer hookup was conveniently located and slightly downhill from the camper, making drainage easy.
- Ground Condition: There were some bare spots on the campsite floor, so bringing a rug is a good idea. The firepit was nice but not ideally positioned, especially since our neighbor’s 5th wheel felt uncomfortably close. This might not be an issue if a smaller trailer occupies the adjacent site.
Final Thoughts
Overall, our stay at Tiki RV Park was a great addition to our Mackinac Island trip. Site 16 had its quirks, but it also had several conveniences that made our stay comfortable. If you’re planning a trip here, just be ready for a bit of worker traffic and consider bringing a rug for those bare patches on the ground. Happy camping!
